The previous Top 5

Manchester City

Manchester City, under the guidance of esteemed manager Pep Guardiola, has maintained its status as a powerhouse in the English Premier League and won the triple last season. Armed with a star-studded line-up, including the likes of Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne, and rising talent Jadon Sancho, the team is equipped to challenge for both domestic and European glory. Expect Manchester City to display their trademark possession-based football, deadly counter-attacks, and rock-solid defence as they aim to clinch yet another Premier League title. They are currently every bookie’s favourite!

Arsenal

After being pipped to the title last season, Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta will be determined to dethrone City. Signing Deklan Rice definitely shows their intent, as they look to integrate young talents and experienced players alike. With their attacking flair and commitment to attractive football, the “Gunners” will push City all the way again.

Manchester United

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United has been on an upward trajectory, with several promising young talents stepping up to complement their established stars like Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. The “Red Devils” will be eager to recapture their former glory days and put up a fierce fight for the Premier League crown. With an emphasis on attacking football and solid midfield play, United’s journey this season will undoubtedly be captivating.

Newcastle United

Newcastle’s rapid dismantling of the established big six has been a pleasant surprise, even for the most optimistic fans of the club. When Eddie Howe assumed control in November 2021 the situation looked dire. The club was without a win and embroiled in a relegation battle. However, things have dramatically turned around, and they are now strategising for another great EPL season and a return to the Champions League. Overall, this positive momentum suggests that the “Magpies” trajectory is set to climb even higher.

Liverpool

Liverpool’s last season remained stagnant until it was already too far into the campaign. Even though they put on a sprint at the end, they couldn’t recover a top-four position. Therefore the “Reds” and manager Jurgen Klopp will be determined to be at the top of their game this season. With their iconic “You’ll Never Walk Alone” echoing across Anfield, Liverpool could be a fierce contender for the title this season.

Last year’s 6-17

Brighton & Hove Albion

Even with the departure of the beloved coach Graham Potter to Chelsea, Brighton & Hove Albion experienced a remarkable breakthrough last season. They secured their first-ever qualification for European competitions and stand to gain millions from potential player transfers. Under the new coach Roberto De Zerbi the “Seagulls” will aim to repeat last season’s successful style of football.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa’s bold move to initiate a complete overhaul by parting ways with coach Steven Gerrard in October2022 after six consecutive losses in their opening 11 Premier League games, proved to be a successful gamble. The arrival of Unai Emery saw them secure European football for this 2023/24 season. With a talented squad including Tyrone Mings and Youri Tielemans, the “Villans” are capable of competing again against the best in the league and aim to secure a top-half finish this season as well.

Tottenham Hotspur

It can only get better for Tottenham Hotspur this season. With new head coach Ange Postecoglou at the helm and a rebuild required, there was a lot of activity. This season Spurs seek to compete again at the highest level. Harry Kane’s presence, along with a skilful midfield led by Rodrigo Bentancur, ensures that Spurs have the potential to upset any team on their day. The focus will be on creating a consistent winning formula that can propel them back into the Champions League spots.

Brentford

Brentford’s second campaign in the Premier League surpassed even their impressive debut season. The “Bees” comfortably secured a spot in the top half of the table, outperforming their West London rivals, Chelsea and Fulham. Therefore Brentford’s team will approach the 2023/24 EPL season with enthusiasm and a fearless attitude. The “Bees” will rely on their collective team spirit and exciting talents to upset more established opponents and fight for survival.

Fulham

Fulham fans are delighted as their team secured a top-half finish in the Premier League for the first time in 11 years. This achievement offers a chance to shed their ‘yo-yo club’ reputation of constantly moving between the top flight and the second-tier Championship. They will be looking to repeat last season’s performance, helped by the Brazilian trio of Carlos Vinicius, Andreas Pereira and Willian.

Chrystal Palace

When Roy Hodgson assumed control of Palace in March, their primary goal was to avoid relegation. However, their comfortable 11th-placed finish stands as a testament to the remarkable turnaround orchestrated by the former England manager. The “Eagles” will rely on a blend of experienced heads and young talents to secure another season of Premier League football, hoping to steer clear of relegation danger.

Chelsea

Last season was a shambolic one for Chelsea and one they really want to put behind them. Todd Boehly and his fellow co-owners are now hoping that new head coach Mauricio Pochettino can form the costly squad into a formidable force for the 2023/24 season. At least they have the advantage that they are free from the usual distractions of European football and can fully concentrate on this season. Chelsea is always a force to be reckoned with.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

A ultimately comfortable 13th-placed finish does not fully capture the tale of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ turbulent last season. They endured weeks of flirting with relegation, underwent two managerial changes, and faced significant struggles in front of goal. The “Wolves” are known for their organized defence and swift counter-attacks, led by the likes Pedro Neto.

West Ham United

The unexpected leaving of captain Declan Rice might have shaken some “hammers” fans. Nevertheless the winning of the Europa Conference League will hopefully be fuel to drive the West Ham team forward this EPL season 2023/24. The “Hammers” have built a well-organized team, spearheaded by the creative talents of Tomáš Souček and the goal-scoring power of Michail Antonio. Their strong team ethic and tenacity make them a genuine threat to any top team.

Bournemouth

In their first campaign back in the top flight since 2019-20, Bournemouth nearly dropped back into the Championship last season. But they managed to pull through and engineered a remarkable survival bid. The aim for this season is very clear: stay away from the relegation spots!

Nottingham Forest

Forest secured their stay in the English Premier League by winning their last three home games, notably defeating Arsenal. The overhaul of their squad proved to be a positive decision in the end, as they successfully avoided a hasty return to the Championship. The hope is that Forest is more Premier League ready this year and can avoid considerable time at the bottom of the league.

Everton

Despite Everton’s extravagant spending of 700 million pounds on players over the last six years, it was yet another dismal season for the “club”Toffees”. They could manage to escape relegation again but their fans will hope that this year’s campaign will be less jittery for them. Radical changes are necessary to prevent a repeat of previous years struggle. On the positive side Everton maintains their record of spending the most years in the top flight than any other club. Let’s hope the team can extend this record in the upcoming EPL season 2023/24.

The newcomers

Burnley

Notably, Burnley FC has scripted an extraordinary tale of success, earning promotion to the Premier League, solidifying its status as one of England’s most historic clubs. The entire journey has been nothing short of epic, leaving fans and football enthusiasts in awe of their achievement. Sean Dyche’s Burnley is known for their no-nonsense approach and defensive resilience. With a sturdy defense and a compact team structure, the “Clarets” will look to consolidate their position in the top flight.

Luton Town

The “Hatters” are making their first appearance in the Premier League since 2008. They will be the underdogs, but they will be hoping to cause a few upsets. They have a young and exciting squad, led by Tom Lockyer and Elijah Adebayo, and they will be looking to make their mark on the top flight.

Sheffield United

The “Blades” are back in the Premier League after a two-season absence. They will be looking to build on their recent success in the Championship, where they finished second last season. They have a strong squad, led by Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick, and hope to challenge for a top-half finish.

Which EPL team will top the league?

Now that we know a bit more about the teams that will compete in the upcoming English Premier League season 2023/24 the question is: who will win? Man City will obviously aim for the fourth title in a row. Some might even think that anything less than the top spot will be a disappointment. Does this put too much pressure on Pep Gardiola and moreover his team? Can Erling Haaland keep his performance and once again become the top scorer in the EPL? We will all know more once the EPL kicks off on 11th August 2023.
